Quantify Your Organization’s Culture: Why & How

Understanding your organization's culture as a whole and down to each person is not often talked about, yet it has a major impact as organizations undergo growth, restructuring, and embark on expensive and lengthy transformation programs.

At its core, culture is often described qualitatively, yet there are methodologies available to quantify how people and groups interact.

The benefits of a quantitative approach is gaining an understanding about:

  • How specific people or groups are positioned to be supportive or will introduce risk

  • Strategies to handle conflict amongst different types

  • Who may be a fit for leadership or a different role within the organization

  • Which types are successful for given roles within the organization to assist with hiring

Two preeminent players in this space are Culture Index and Predictive Index. Both offer a mix of assessments, content, and coaching to ensure that results are contextualized properly for your organization and its objectives.

Adjacent approaches that can be used as a proxy for this include personality tests paired with an advisor that is aware of dynamics between those personalities within a professional setting. These may include things like Myers Briggs or Enneagram, and there are plenty of others.

I often recommend that organizations explore both Culture Index and Predictive Index, and typically organizations that move forward choose the former.

TLDR: Consider using an analytical approach to assess your organization's culture ahead of growth, restructuring, or transformation programs.
